to Murray Perahia

and Sony

Short Description of the project :

At the beginning there was a bibliophilic book (limited edition) : The four-handed piano with poems by Michèle FINCK and photos of a piano painted by Laury AIME. This book includes a poem about Murray Perahia : a homage to Murray Perahia.

This bibliophilic book is now accompanied by a cd rom. This Cd rom proposes an interactive interpretation (poetry, painting, photography, voice, music) of the bibliophilic book  The Four-Handed Piano (limited edition). You will find the texts of the 24 poems written by Michèle Finck, read out by the author and translated into three languages (English by Mary Ann Caws, Italian by Fabio Scotto, German by Angèle and Adrien Finck). You will find 476 pictures of the piano painted by Laury Aime (whole and details). These pictures are also animated and accompanied either by an extract of Mozart’s piano concerto n°21 (soloist and conductor: Murray Perahia) or by the poems read out by Michèle Finck. You will also find the two prefaces by Jean Rouch and Maria-Luisa Spaziani, read out by their authors.

Because there is a poem about Murray Perahia, I would like very much to include in the cd rom Mozart piano concerto n°21 (a large extract of the 1rst mouvement only) played by Murray Perahia. It would make much sense to use his interpretation then use another one played by another pianist: please understand this.

I insist on the fact that the cd rom will exist only in 500 copies. For these 500 copies, I would like Murray Perahia and Murray Perahia lawyer to allow me to use Muray Perahia’s interpretation of Mozart first mouvement. I would be very grateful.

If you look in the cd rom, I have put a special button which gives at any time the possibilitie (if you tuch it) to kwow all the referencies about the music of Mozart by Murray Perahia I choosed. It is a publicity for the record edited by Sony. May be, some of the 500 people who will have the cd rom will like to buy the complete cd of Mozart n°21 after hearing the beautiful extract I put and reading the referencies of the cd audio in the cd rom to look for it.

If one day we have to make more than 500 copies, I will of course contact you to give you the part which is yours.

I send with this short description of the project :

- 2 copies of the CD-rom.

I hope you will understand how important it is for this project to let me use M.P.’s interpretation wich I love and which is in accordance with the poem dedicated to M. P. .

Thank you for understanding this CD Rom project limited to 500 copies.

I send the package (with cd rom, poem and this letter) today. You should receive this package in a few days. I give it to M. Laurent Burin des Roziers, the french culturel conseillor of the french embassy in New York. He’s office will send it to you at his arrival in New York. I give you his telephone if you need some more information about me : 212 439 14 20.

You can also visit my web site www.laurygranier.free.fr if you need some information about me.

Sincerly yours.

Poem by Michèle Finck :

Navire de musique

Claudio Arrau, Murray Perahia, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau,

Translation by Mary Ann Caws :

Music Ship

Claudio Arrau, Murray Perahia, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau,

Standing on the prow of the sounding sun,

You who gather living sounds, with their roots,

- Not cut flowers, earthless -

And give forth, in music, the rustle of foam

Of time, each of your breaths

Is a burst of thunder come

From a future galaxy to cure us.

And we, flying fish at the stern,

We plant them once more, like cuttings

Of dream, in our open flesh.

It's to us the sounds now listen.
