Short biography

 

LAURY GRANIER (AIME)

 

Laury Granier was born in Paris in 1963. He’s got a P. H. D. in Art and Sciences of Art from the University of Paris I-Sorbonne where he teaches now Cinema practice and directing. He is also a painter under the name of Laury Aime. He has been exhibiting since 1989 in Europe : in 1997, exhibition in Paris and Rome ("New abstraction" at Villa Borghese); in 1998, exhibition in the museum of Modern Art in Bern (Swizerland), then in Strasbourg and in Paris ; in 1999, in Paris at the Donguy Galery, at the Sorbonne University and in the " Orangerie " of the garden of Luxembourg. He is also a photographer, published in reviews (particularly a serie of portraits and photographies of his own paintings). In 1987, he was the producer and director of a show multimedia Autour du vidéopoème: "la porte", at the Théâtre de l’Ombre qui Roule in Paris. His texts were said by Michael Lonsdale.

He made two bibliophilic books, limited edition: Autour du vidéopoème: "la porte" Midrash de la mer ; and The Four handed piano , texts by Michèle Finck translated into english by Mary Ann Caws, with 45 pictures of his paintings).

Laury Granier works also with the new technologies in arts (infografics) and his images with computers where shown in exhibitions.

Author, scenarist, operator in chief, producer, director (society Lorimage and association Udnie), he realised several short featured of film and video which were released on European TV and won the award of the best cultural clip of the vidéothèque of Paris. Written with the collaboration of Michèle Finck his most important film: Mummy Mammy (35 mm) is concerned with the alliance of fiction, tale and poetry and is under the sign of dance (the main part is played by Carolyn Carlson) painting (several of his pictural works are included) music and video art. Mummy Mammy was presented by Jean Rouch as a preview at the French cinemathèque and won the first Andrei Tarkovski award for its artistical creation and the cinematographical language in Buenos Aires in 1996. Selected in different international festivals (particularly Pesaro, Roma villa Medicis, Split, Istanbul, Manchester, Montréal, Wilenshaven, Paris Unesco) this film, fusion of Laury Granier’s pictural and cinematographical work, was previewed in numerous cinemas in France (in Paris during five months in 1999) and abroad (particularly in Rome and New York in 2000).
